'On The Move' Clubs Secure For Next Twelve Months

Age Concern Malvern Hills' 'On the Move' clubs look secure for another twelve months at least after staff, volunteers and club members rallied round to raise cash and find extra funding. Richard Burt hailed the campaign a great success after recently receiving hundreds of petitions collected by Ryall resident and club member, Annie Tooke when he visited the club at Strensham Village Hall.

"I am delighted that the future of 'On the Move' clubs is secured for at least another year. Everyone has rallied round to do their bit to save the clubs. £1000 has been raised from the Longdon area. Hire fees for Stanford Bridge and Strensham Village Halls have been waived and Ripple Parish Council look set to fund half the increase for members at Strensham.

"'On the Move' clubs provide a lifeline for so many older people who live alone. Some members don't get out of their homes between club meetings and really look forward to lunch and social activities for a few hours once a fortnight.

"However, staff hours have been reduced and most club members will still pay an extra £3 per day. There remains a need to secure better long term funding for the future."
