Richard Burt: Your Local Champion

Burt Calls On Cameron To Prove His Green Credentials

12.16.00pm UTC (GMT +0000) Fri 23rd Nov 2007

West Worcestershire's Liberal Democrat Parliamentary Candidate, Richard Burt has today written to Conservative Leader, David Cameron asking him to prove his green credentials by backing the campaign to save two Plane trees in Belle Vue Terrace, Malvern that have been approved for felling by the Tory controlled district council.

Mr Burt, who will join residents in Malvern tomorrow to help gather signatures in protest at the decision, said: "There has been an unholy alliance of Conservative interest on the Town Centre Partnership, The Town Council and the District Council to railroad through this unpopular decision - passed by just two votes.

"I have asked David Cameron to prove his green credentials by expressing his support for the campaign to save the trees to his Conservative colleagues on the district council.

"It's all very well riding a bike to work for a photo-opportunity with your limousine carrying your shoes and papers following behind, but if the Tory Leader really wants to convince people that blue is now green, he has to do something about the environmental dinosaurs on Malvern Hills District Council who pushed this lamentable decision through the planning committee against the recommendation of officers."
